“Choose the path that's right by you. Always. It may end in misery -a small price to pay. No amount of hardship compares to the emptiness of regret. Of never having lived at all.”

If you're a reader or a writer or both, then you definitely know about #bookstagram and you probably know about the #writingcommunity. It is precisely in this way that my hype for Jenna Moreci's book - The Savior's Champion, has been growing more and more. I kept seeing people posting about it, sharing details about it and constantly recommending it. In addition to this, thanks to my best friend, I was already familiar with Jenna's writing videos which are all so useful and really bring some incredible insight into how to publish your book in the right way and what steps of the whole process are essential. So the moment came for me to buy myself a special Christmas present. You can already guess what, right?
So after my month of reading Bulgarian literature was over, I immediately picked The Savior's Champion up and sank into it. It presents Tobias's experience of being part of the tournament, the prize of which is becoming the Savior's husband. At first he is disinterested into this but circumstances convince him otherwise so he finds himself in the middle of a dangerous tunnel with twenty different men, all competing for the hand of their Savior, at least that's supposedly their main reason for it. As the tension in the labyrinth grows, so does Tobias's instict for survival. And there, during the tournament - the most unexpected time for something positive, he finds something to give him reason to fight and to surrender simultaneously. Someone that makes him hope and brings him light in the darkness of his surroundings. He is then faced with probably the biggest challenges of the tournament - how to continue to compete in this extremely dangerous tournament for the hand of the Savior while he's already in love with another woman?
As mentioned above, my expectations for the book were extremely high. Given everybody's recommendations about it and Jenna's amazing platform and videos, I was certain that this was a masterpiece. Yes, at first the story captured my interest. There was a lot of action, there were cliffhangers in the end of every chapter and there was also an element of mistery. Tobias's character kept developing and Leila's personality was intriguing to me. I wanted to get to know her more and more. My curiousity was indeed peaked.

However, soon after Leila's character was presented I made an assumption about her which grew stronger and stronger with the chapters until eventually I was absolutely certain I was correct. So when I reached the end I knew what was going to take place which but that was not the problem. Solving a mystery is not a negative thing when it comes to books. Making it the only revalation though, after going through 550 pages, could leave a reader more or less disappointed. That's what happened to me. I was sure there will be some major reveal, something more than what I had already guessed, but then there was none. Just more questions possibly aimed at the sequel and which left me extremely confused about the whole situation within the world itself.
Overall, that does not mean the book was bad. it just wasn't my cup of tea I suppose. The love story eventually became more than I needed, the characters didn't really develop as much as I had expected, there were many predictable moments and things that were unclear in the end. This of course, doesn't mean I don't like Jenna Moreci anymore or that I will stop watching her videos. I still think she's great and has a great marketing strategy for her work. She's inspirational and funny and she has accomplished a lot.
So I'll put it like this instead. If you're a fantasy fan, who enjoys reading plots with a major focus on the love story and if you don't mind it taking over, then this book is probably suitable for you. It has darkness, it has action, it has drama, and it has love so perhaps you might actually enjoy it. However, if you're the type of reader who is craving twists and turns and a lot of unexpected reveals, then you might be disappointed in the end. It's really a matter of a personal choice and reading preferences. Either way, do make sure that you follow Jenna on social media. I don't think you will regret it.
